Databricks has acquired a cloud spreadsheet startup that has raised $13 million, announcing its plans to add better spreadsheet capabilities to its Genie AI coworker tool as tabular AI models attract billions of dollars.
The acquisition of Row Zero, founded by engineers from AWS and Tableau, was announced on 24 September, with Databricks to bring “secure governed spreadsheets” after previously partnering with the startup.
Databricks Co-Founder Patrick Wendell said: “As more finance, operations, and go-to-market teams adopt Genie, incorporating a seamless spreadsheet experience is a must-have.”
Databricks declined to comment on the value of the deal. Row Zero last raised $10 million for a seed round in May 2025 but had never publicly disclosed a valuation.
